How ridiculous do you sound??? Good people fall on hard times without warning and not due to any fault of their own sometimes. How can you write that statement. If a bill collector called and professionally spoke to you, this would be a non-issue. However, they DO NOT speak to you in a professional manner. Instead they barade and disrespect you and I don't know many people who will accept that type of behavior from anyone. I agree with this. Why do people buy other debts and expect to collect on them. The ones who are truly owed the debt should be the ones going after people, I don't have a past due bill of any kind!
These a**holes called me looking for someone in my neighborhood. We are a business, and I flatly asked after a while "So, you're randomly calling and harassing businesses in the area of this person you're looking for to collect a debt?!", and he replied yes and hung up.Hey um SUSAN! People's financial circumstances change, but their debt does not, apart from going up and up and up from bogus interest and 'service' fees. You, Susan, are obviously a product of the Public Education System, taught to take orders, fill in forms and punch the clock without question or problem solving skills. You must pay EVERY nickel of your taxes, too, without even TRYING to find a deduction or two. Again, peoples circumstances change due to factors beyond their control, but their debt stays the same, or, more likely, continues to go up even though they haven't bought anything more than their original purchases. Do a little logical thinking sweetheart [can I call you sweetheart?] and stop blaming & defaming ordinary folks who cant help their circumstances. Can you say 'LOGICAL FALACY'? Shame on you-

I have a better idea. Use SKYPE to call them back, at the same # they call you, 20-30 times a day. When you'll dial from your comp using SKYPE, it'll show the word "unavailable" .Then you can tell them what you thinking about them and all the "proper" words they deserve for bugging you for so long !!!These people are harrassing me as well for my step mother who lives in a completely different state. The guy was extremely rude and said, "If your step mother would start acting like an adult and call us back then we wouldn't have to call you." She is in her 60's. I told them that they were rude and no wonder she doesn't call you back. He was threatening to call an attorney I told him to go ahead. I asked him if he liked being called at home at 9:00 at night, and he said no. So I told him to stop calling me. I don't even have any business with them.Did any of you ever think that these collectors are simply doing their jobs? Some of you truly owe a past-due bill, so deal with it. Stop looking for a way out and own up to your obligations. I am sick and tired of hearing how bad bill collectors are because they are asking people to simply pay the debts that they originally signed up for. This is why some of you are debtors...you could be spending this time on making some money to get yourselves out of the mess you created. Use the call forwarding feature on your phone - and forward the calls to a telephone number that you know is disconnected. They will stop calling because the computer they are using to dial the number will recognize the tone.
This works for all of these types of calls.

Practically the same thing has happened to me. They've been calling my cell phone for these past 3 days. And I'm under 18... They keep asking me if they could speak to a person who's name I did not recognize. That one woman who called you... May be the same woman who called me. She asked to speak at an adult who owns the house & saying that that person who I could not recognize lives here.... This woman happened to call on a private number but a second number appeared on my cell phone, asking for that same person. My ex-father-in-law is receiving these call. I did have an outstanding bill and have spoke to them about it. I asked to please mail me the bill so I could take care of it. I was told I had to make a payment right then and there and that would not mail me anything. They also told me that the interest was 50% of what the original bill was and the payment they wanted only $4 of it would go towards the bill! Problem is I had moved and put in a change of address to the company I had the bill with. It was a 6 mo same as cash thing and then after the six mo period when the bill was returned to them, because they say they never got a change of address (which I went in the store in person to do...big mistake I guess) they sold the bill to this place. Anyway.........my father-in-law is 87 yrs old and not in good health. They continually harrass him. I just don't know how to get it to stop. They are very nasty and rude and mean on the phone, not to him, but when I have spoke to them. If they would only send me the bill stating the amount, so we could work this out that woould be nice. But I will be damned if I am just gonna make a payment over the phone to who knows who! AND....the interest keeps going up, way up every month.
Well to say the least I am totally upset on what and how to handle this situation. I want to pay back what I did originally owe and if there is to be interest at a reasonable rate. Otherwise, it looks like these people are just not going to get a dime from me. I am not a bad person and being treated like this is terrible. Any suggestions anyone? Thank you in advance..

Well, this guy called my cell asking for my daughter, but he did not know this. I told him this is now my cell and he harassed me asking if I know her or knew where she was. I told him if he told me what it was about and he said it was private so I told him if I know where she was, it was also private and not to call me again... Within seconds he called my office... I told him to remove both numbers and he hung up with a smart a** remark... Problem is he will not tell you where he is calling from so you cannot get an address....

Of course, they try different tactics, such as changing numbers, etc., but the blocker works. We are currently going through litigation, and they have been sent notices to stop calling us, but of course they continue, so we just block them. Never even know they call, because the phone never rings.don't need a fancy droid phone. i have a call reject list on my ancient low tech cell phone. they call once, if i don't want to hear from them again, i add their number to the reject list. of course, they can use diff numbers, but each number only works once

Checked our paperwork.. Sure enough, our mortgage is through these clowns. - my phone numbers are the only ones listed. (W & H) IDK how long we've been paying them - but, in the past 5 years - we've never missed a payment - never been late... now they calling - why? why why why .. and why are they an 866 number?? it's even listed on their statement as an 866 number. .. I never answer 866 or any number similar to that - or if it says UNKNOWN Caller. Our last two transactions for oct and nov are posted on the statement and cleared.they just want to say "hello", and then try to get as much personal and financial information as possible. They are told not to leave any kind of message.first of all, it is the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and they can call the relatives until the relatives request that they do not call again. It is not against the FDCPA to call a neighbor. It is against the law for a collector to call the neighbor and talk about the debt. They can only discuss the debt with the debtor. Since I live in an area where property prices have plummeted and there are numerous foreclosures, companies like Chase dumped our loans to a shaddy company like LBPS, which is pushing loan modifications approved by our government. The loan modification program directed by the government is a hoax, along with the financial institutions to implement the largest property grab in history. I have spoken to a Real Estate agent in my city and she told me that she knows numerous people in our area who are having problems with LBPS.I know you shouldn't have to... but I would call your insurance agent and have them send LBPS the info. If not, they may try to force-place. Watch them carefully... they are out to generate fees every which way... they used to be a notorious servicer called "Wilshire Credit".If anyone has any questions on where to email or where to call and how to get around the reps that act as gate keepers let me know I still know some of the secrets there.I just got a call from this number today, the called was looking for me however would not provide a name and was VERY WEIRD. I did not tell them who i was and started asking the caller information which they would ONLY provide to the person with my name. Did a reverse search online that said the number is UPS tracking company number for packages.

I got a call from this number today (866)849-3243. It was not Macy's or any other collection agency.

The message said that my business (I own a small business) had received a review from a customer at merchantcircle.com and to go there if I wanted to see the review. Of coarse I want to see the review! I went and there were no reviews. They just wanted me to sign up and pay them to advertise. I DO NOT appreciate this sales tactic. I looked all over the website for a contact # but found none, and I'm not emailing. I don't need any more spam. I called the number back and got a recording. No chance to talk to a person or leave a message.Just received a call from these people (automated). Merchant Circle is the name of the company, and they do that bogus "you just got a rating from a customer" crap. What it really is, is an attempt to get you to sign up for their ridiculous service. We have never been listed with them, ever.
I called back and got an automated message answering service, which had directions for removing one's phone number from their 'to call' list. Note that you must call back from the same line that they called you on, otherwise that phone number will not be removed.
I got a call from this number today (866)849-3243. It was not Macy's or any other collection agency.
according to the robot that spoke when I answered. The message said that my business (I own a small business) had received a review from a customer at merchantcircle.com and to go there if I wanted to see the review. Of coarse I want to see the review! I went and there were no reviews. They just wanted me to sign up and pay them to advertise. I DO NOT appreciate this sales tactic. I looked all over the website for a contact # but found none, and I'm not emailing. I don't need any more spam. I called the number back and got a recording. I have received calls from this number for the past 3 days. It is a recorded message saying they are from Macy's about a personal business matter. The number is &*%^$%#^# (I can't understand what they are saying).

It was a recording of Chuck Norris campaigning for Mike Huckabee.Called at 7:10pm, luckily Privacy Manager got to it first! It was a political call for John McCain. Seems as though since we switched phone companys and our phone # is no longer private we are getting political calls out the a$$!! This has got to stop!The phone number is Merchants Circle. I know someone who has an attorney in Boston that is going to take legal action towards them and what they did to a business. The business has legal grounds. As far as that verification goes it is true they wanted toverify a Physician......hmmmmm Physicians and other licensed professional are not hard to verify. I think someone should verify Merchants circle. By the way they have 2 numbers that showed upon the caller ID

This is the weirdest thing I've ever heard! Got a call from this number this morning. Picked it up, said hello, heard myself saying "Hello" back. Said, "Yes?" Heard myself saying "Yes?" Said "Hello" again, heard myself saying "Hello" again. Everything I said was parroted back to me, in my own voice. It wasn't like an echo on the line - it was like my voice was being recorded and played back to me. Very disturbing! I tried calling the number back, got a recorded message saying, "You have reached the voice messaging center. If you're calling because you missed our call, please hang up. We'll call again later." They'd better be ready for an earful when they do!

oh my gosh i got the same exact call for the past couple of days. Saying too it was macys since i do have a acct. with them I was concerned called the number and it was nothing. Still very concern about everything I checked my acct and everything was good. They called so many time in the morning that I thought it was a serious issue, THanks nicky for this now I know not to call them back
My call went right into a recording saying someone had identified my company favorably on "merchant circle .com" and to go to that site and enter my phone number to see what they said. This is just like email spam, but by phone...! (I guess this is "convergence"...!) I didn't go to the site, rather reported to DoNotCall and came here. Glad I did. They keep at it and identify themselves differently over and over... weird and disturbing.I have read some of the other entries. Mine was an answering service, and referred me to other things. It finally hung up on me. Something needs to be done about these types of spam. I'd like to know why it can't be tracked and shut down so it doesn't irritate people. This number has been calling my phone twice or three times a day religiously for about two months now. No messages are ever left. The first phone call is usually around 8am. The phone calls stopped around the christmas holidays, and just when I thought I was free of it, I received a call on Jan 3rd...at least we know they celebrate the holidays!

I think it would be wise for everyone else to do the same.

I do not know how they got my phone number?I have been receiving calls - at work - from this number all week. The gentleman leaves a message and a cell phone number. I called him back once and got his voice mail. I asked that if he called again to please leave a message as to what the call is regarding. I get too many loonies calling and have to screen my calls. He has continues to call back several times and will not indicate why he's calling. When he called again this morning shortly after 7 a.m. - that's when I found this web site. I did call and add my direct line and incoming general line to their block list. I hope it works. He was on the verge of becoming rude when he would say "this is JL and I'm STILL trying to reach you. I tried calling it back and it just said it was a voice message system and to hang up because they will be calling back another time. How is this legal; they don't even say who they are! I am sick of all these weird numbers calling my home..I agree, they are extremely annoying. I just got my first call from them today and I fully intend on researching this and finding out the legal paramiters and will keep all of you posted. This is not called for and has to come to an end.Got a call from this # on my cell phone while working today. I answered too late and then received a voicemail about esxpired baby formula being sold at a local grocery store. I just wasted a precious any-time minute (which my carrier charges me quite a bit for) on something that has no value to me and is not even pertinent to anything I am or will be doing. I tried to call the number back to have them take me off the list and all I get is a busy signal. There goes another any-time minute. FRUSTRATING. Is there anything else I can do- besides writing a snail mail letter that has no 'audit trail'?

I got a call from 866-849-3243 this morning at 9 am. When I answered I got the reply "We are sorry. This number was called in error." I spoke with a nasty french from France working at the visa desjardins call center who scream at me on the phone, and she said that maybe I gave my credit card by with out realizing it this is incredible ! My card was scam !Today I called again and a nice visa cs person took the charges off and opened and investigation then I spoke with sup about the nasty one and the 2nd one so people don't let scammers take you down.This has now happened to me on two different credit cards! Master Card and Visa. Received the same claim that I clicked on a free trial for their service on Classmates, a site I had not looked at for over a YEAR! No idea how they got my credit card numbers. They would not refund the monies just a promise to close the account, AMEX was unhelpful as they claimed it was my fault for signing up, which I did not. Bottom line don't believe anyone just cancel your credit cards and get new ones and also cancel your Classmates account.I have no recollection of ever having been called by these guys but I recently noticed the monthly $29.95 charge to my Mastercard. After visiting their website I don't feel any wiser. However, I did manage to login and in "my account" there was a link to cancel.

I responded in kind, but the second one was the same as the rest and reminded me of the Nigerian scams, so I googled his name and found you all received the same thing. The wording of the emails appears to be all the same.........it DID appear to be too good to be true........I think that is what sent up the red flag for us.

I called back and it was famil readers service. The lady I spoke to was very kind abourt taking the business I work for off thier list. When asked about the hang ups I was told that they use computer to call people and sometimes the timing is off and the person calling hears a ring tone before you do and so by the time you answer the phone they believe no one is on your end so they hang up. Just call they will give you the number they have you at for you to verify and the name they have you lisited for just explain you wished to not be called anymore and they will do it.

Every time I call the number back it says, "All circuits are busy, please try your call again."I got a call from this number on my cell phone, which I only give out to family and friends. Missed a call from this number, and when I listened to my voicemail, I could hear a guy with an Indian {?} accent singing quietly to himself. Very strange

I said I had virus protection and she said this was worse than a virus but that she could run through the steps with me. When I returned the call I had a recorded message which said that the number was either disconnected or unavailable.

They have been calling me for two weeks several times a day and I am on the do not call list. Very annoying. I will try all of the above and see if it works.I receive calls from this number constantly, but there's never anyone on the line. I too, am on the "Do Not Call" list. Received a call. My husband answered, said, "Hello, hello. Hello!" No one spoke. He hung up and I looked it up. Another bothersome junk call.
I also called the number back and it DOES say "push 1 to be removed" from their list - to not be contacted in the future with their "special offers" - lol! As said in an earlier post...we shall see if this actually happens. I sure hope so, because they have been calling me INCESSANTLY! Good luck to all that these people are plaguing.

I answered one of the first ones and it was a "Tom from home security" message. All the comments seemed to be computer generated.
The last time they called I answered again. After the initial message I eventually got a real person! I said "is this a real person or a recording?" He said "Do I really sound that bad?". I said "Please STOP calling this number, it's on the Do Not Call registry." He said "Ok, I'll remove your number".

On my Android phone, I go into the call log and bring up the number. Press the menu button and you can "add to the reject list". That's how I keep these dirtbags from bothering me.

I think I read somewhere that as long as the caller identifies him/her self (example, company name), that they are allowed to call you even if your #'s on the list. I think the Do Not Call system needs a complete overhaul. If you take the time to have your number added to this list (my #'s been on the list forever) then it should mean "I don't want to receive any, I repeat, any telemarket calls. What the crap is wrong with these people. Do they think if they aggravate the P*%s out of someone, that we'll buy whatever they're trying to sell. Wake up A**Holes, it's not working!!!!

Thanks everyone for the info - the guy identified himself as Tom. Before he could say more, responded with "Stop calling my number, this is harrassment" and the guy hung up.

Yes...this is a guy named Tom calling in regards to a free security system. I have had 13 calls in the last 24 hours. I finally answered the phone and told him that he is getting a reputation on the internet for being a pain in the a**...! He continued to try and get me to try his deal and I finally told him that I already have a system in place and to take me off his call list. I also told him that I will be giving his number and company name to the FTC for harassing phone calls. He hung up.
I too receive calls from Tom selling home security systems and offering a free system installed just for placing a small yard sign in front of the house.
